The Royal Canadian Navy
by Dale Hillier

This is a somewhat fictional account of what the Canadian Navy might look like had there not been such a bunch of left wing geo-political virgins in the Parlament Buildings in Ottawa.

Some things must be pointed out first.

This is by no means a realistic account of the RCN. It was designed specifically for the WW3 database being created by me. I felt that given the plot for the battle set, Canada needed a stronger navy than what is currently available. Geo-Political and Geo-Economic realtities did not play any part in the creation of this.

These platforms are designed from scratch. It took me roughly 36 hours for each platform to be created. About half of the equipment on the platforms is Canadian in origin. They were modified from either UK or US equipment. Of the rest of the items, they mostly come from the US, with some from the UK.

Here are the platforms:

Surface vessels:

1.	CVHL 1 Vimy Ridge: This is based on the Wasp LHD design. Unlike the Wasp, this class is designed primarily for the Sea Control Role with secondary 'gator role. In other words, the roles are reversed. I have created several new platforms to fly off the Vimy Ridge. These will be discussed later.

2.	DDG284 Province: This is a AAW DDG based on the Burke II class. It has SPY-1D. It contains its own magazine for VLS and can launch SM1, SM2, and SeaLance. It also contains a new mount for point defence. The Mk 26 CGAMS (Combined Gun And Missle System) is a Mk 15 mod 1 Philanx combined with a RAM launcher.

3.	AOE 511 Mountain: This is the new class of AOE. Taken from the Supply class of AOE, it is somewhat slower, and doesn't carry as much ammo. It has Canadian Sea Sparrow and Mk 26 CGAMS. It also has an SQS-505 sonar for mine hunting. I know that mines are not modeled in H2 but from what I am reading on the mail list, that may soon change.

That is the new platforms, included in the zip file are Halifax, Iroquois TRUMP and Protecteur.

Subs:

1.	SSN 75 Great Lakes: This is taken from the SeaWolf design and modified to Canadian needs. There is six 762 mm tubes for Spearfish torpedos. Harpoon 1D can also be launched from the subs. All lauches are of the 'swimout' type. Sonars are canadian, modified from American and UK systems. There is also a Mast Mounted RAM that can be used at 'scope depth to make helos and MPA go away. Furthermore, there is the ability to use the Mk 70 MOSS. It is a modified Mk 48 ADCAP that can be launched to simulate a sub. It is not finished yet and I am not sure that it can be done. If you can do something with it then let me know.

2.	SSK 47 River: This is adopted from the Upholder Class of SSK. It has an AIP system that I would consider essental for under ice operations. It has four 762 mm tubes and the MMR. It can carry the same weapons as the Great Lakes SSN though fewer in number.

Planes:

1.	C/A-8D Harrier: This plane is used to fly off of Vimy Ridge. It is a true multi-role aircraft. There is a LOT of loadouts for the aircraft. Different sensors and the like. Taken from the AV-8C in the ODB.

2.	C/V-22S Osprey: This is little more than a SV-22 with some extra comms and one more loadout. I hope to play with it later....

3.	C/V-22R Osprey: This is an AEW version of the Osprey. I took an MV-22, added more comms and an E-2 radar. I hope to be able to play with this also.

4.	CH-60S SeaLion: This is the USN helo designed for the Burke II class of DDG. Although there isn't any capability to fire Hellfire as of yet. I plan to change this.

5.	C/F-18E: This is the CAF main fighter plane. It is NOT designed for use on carriers and I have hense modified it as such. I will play with this one also.

All of these platforms go into the WW3 database as well. Enclosed in the zip file is the names I have created for the new vessels.
