The Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), designated F/A-24 here, will replace the USAF F-16 and the USMC AV-8 Harriers, will replace the Harriers in service with the United Kingdom and will complement the USN F/A-18's. It is expected to be heavily exported as an F-16 replacement.

The fighter will come in 3 varieties with a 90% commonality of parts. All will be supersonic aircraft. The Navy derivative will be structurally stronger for carrier operations. The Marine variety will be a VSTOL aircraft. All are expected to provide 33% more unrefueled combat radius, 33% more agility, 25% more accelleration and 15% more "G" turning capabilities than aircraft they are to replace. All will allow for a 15-18000 lbs ordinance payload, and 16000 lb fuel payload.
