These Fletcher class destroyers, all built by June 1943, are now in reserve. They were transferred on lease in 1959, and bought in 1977. Two other Fletchers were scrapped in 1981. Their main strength nowadays would be gunfire support, though their torpedo tubes are capable of firing the relatively modern NT-37 torpedo. Plans to modernise at least three of these ships, announced in 1985 seem to have been abadoned.
