Changes and Additions for PFEDIT 1.1

Note: PFEDIT 1.1 is intended to be used with the Admiral's Edition database or a previous version of Harpoon2 that has been patched using H2UPDATE. Use of PFEDIT with an unpatched version prior to Admiral's edition can result in database corruption.

1. Memory requirements have been reduced to below 450k conventional. There should be no lock ups when attempting to edit large data files (i.e. weapons).

2. All indexes are now displayed on-line when choosing an object to edit or adding objects to platforms. Gray page up and page down keys scroll the display. You can throw away the index files/printouts!! (if you want too, I find them convenient for some of the files with a huge number of entries)

3. Users now have access to all data fields that are actually used by the game engine. New fields:

sensor search frequency
sensor track frequency
weapon record multiple
platform version #
ship & facility missile defense ratings
sensor max/min range
sensor range/angle accuracy
mount armor ratings
mount autonomous flag
facility cross sections
facility mast height
weapon launch video
sensor & mount arcs/facing

Note on sensor frequencies: the bit mask scheme 360 used on sensor frequency results in ambiguities. In many cases, if you designate a frequency, when you later view that sensor, other frequencies that you did not designate will appear. This is unavoidable due to the method 360 chose.

This completes all data fields. I have omitted a few that are not used by the game and are not displayed in the game in any way. This is to simplify platform editing as much as possible. Several data fields that were accessable in previous versions of PFEDIT have been removed. These data fields have no effect on the game and are not displayed anywhere in the game.

4. Ship and facility armor rating categories are defined

5. Weapon air %hit values changed to ATA values

6. Cross sections have been returned to the whole number values. This was done based on the info in the 360 database editor docs. The formulas provided for calculating radar and IR cross sections would require the user to use a calculator and do some math regardless of whether I put the cross sections in area or log format. Since calculators and formulas would be required either way, I chose to use the same format as 360 to allow direct use of their formulas and lookup tables.

7. Corrected bug where backup data files would not be created if older bak files already existed

8. Fixed bugs in TPF/SDB routines that would occaisionally result in lockups or corrupted TPF/SDB files

8. Corrected bug that could crash PFEDIT if TPF was made from a new platform before the platform DAT file was saved

9. Reduced the frequency that TPFs will make unnecessary additions to the receiving database

10. You must now provide the file extension when naming new TPF files. This makes TPF creation consistent with TPF loading and allows extenstions other than TPF to be used.

11. Updated the platform reports to include new data fields

12. Added ability to print reports for all platforms of the same type with one command (producing some large text files!)

13. Added ability to update index files for the entire database with one command

14. Added column headings to index files

15. Added Country.dat index
