The WWIII Russian Campaign
by Tom Dungan

This campaign was designed and fully playtested several years ago,
when the HDS series was new. By that time, the HSWBBS had closed,
leaving no site upon which to dump this campaign. With the emergence
of several key Harpoon-related web pages, and the issuing of Harpoon
Classic '97, the time seemed right to resurrect this campaign. A few
minor modifications have been made to some of the scenarios prior to
re-release. Limited playtesting was done with the HC97 system; some
of the changes implemented in the HC97 code may cause slight problems
with play balance.

There were 2 major reasons why this campaign was created: 1) lack of
a campaign function for Harpoon, and a dearth of user-created
artificial campaigns, and 2) lack of scenarios written from the RED
point of view. Hopefully I have been successful in optimizing both.

There is no background material for this campaign. You assume the
role of a Russian commander knowing only that hostilities have
begun. The order in which you play the scenarios (and if you will
play some scenarios at all) is determined by how you fare in previous
outings.

All scenarios were written under the HDS1 series of Battlesets.

I assume no liability for any defect in this software, or any damage
that it might cause.

Please send comments, questions, war stories, complaints, or faint praise

WWIII Scenario Information

     All scenarios are to be played from the RED side.
     On the settings screen, set Nuclear Release possibility ON, weapons
loadouts full OFF for each scenario.
     Each scenario is listed, along with the next scenario to be played
depending on the outcome of that scenario. For instance, in Scenario #1,
if you win, you play #2, if you lose, you play #3. For scenario #9,
lettered options are given, which depend on the outcomes of other
scenarios. For example, winning both #4 and #7 would mean that you would
play #9A. As you can see, the objective of every Battleset campaign except
IOPG is to play #9 at maximum advantage (9B). Therefore, you should play
each battleset's campaign PRIOR to beginning #9. Also, under the Win/Lose
categories are listed "SM", "V", and "D". "SM" means stalemate, ending
that battleset without decisiveness. "V" means victory, winning the war;
this can only be done in #9 or #14. "D" means defeat - you lose the war;
this can only happen in #6, or #9.
